Dumbuie Reviews

There were some minor maintenance issues such as the tv remote missing a key button, the crumbling shower seal in the first bathroom and the wonky door on a bedroom. Overall though, Dumbuie was an excellent base for our walking holiday. The house was spacious and warm. The heating was perfectly set and effective. The woodburner added to the cosy feel. The kitchen was very wellequipped indeed. We lacked nothing. Haltwhistle is a friendly town with good facilities. We particularly enjoyed the Black Bull and Comrades Club. Thanks, Lindsey.

We had a lovely stay in the Dumbuie, there was no hot water on the first day but one txt message to Lindsey the owner and a plumber turned up half an hour later to sort it. Very impressed. Would definitely stay there again. I should say theres also an electric shower so we could still shower on the first day
Patrick
Great space for a grown up family to get together, great location for touring the area, the wall and Newcastle and coast by car, bus and train and if course on foot. Accommodation had all the facilities needed for a large family of 8. Having 3 bathrooms and ground floor loo was great and boot room with dog bed was great a great space for dog to rest after a busy day. Outside space was great too. Nearby on road parking for 3rd car was easily found and safe. Only marked down as felt it just needed a little maintenance to spruce up the deco in the living area and dining room as looking a little warm and scuffed and a little attention to the higher areas for webs and dust. Will definately recommend though for a large family as we all enjoyed our get together and evening dinners and games around the extra large dining table.

Dumbuie is a lovely house and if the whole house was like the top floor, it would be stunning. It is very comfortable and was a lovely size for a large family to stay in. The top floor is simply outstanding. When we arrived we walked into the yard to find a rather tatty welcoming with torn umbrella cover and weeds and full bins. We were there over a bank holiday so we didnt have a bin collection whilst we were there so we had to leave very full bins. As we walked into the kitchen area, we were greeted by a pile of mouldy cushions. We moved them as they were very unpleasant to look at. The kitchen is lovely, very well appointed and was the main place we stayed in as the table was lovely with there being so many of us 2 babies, 2 dogs and 6 adults. The middle floor is tired particularly the bathrooms, that had mould so we had to buy cleaning products to get rid of the mould. We also had to clean quite a bit of the kitchen and the plates and cutlery were wet and some put away dirty. The neighbours were not very welcoming or friendly and we were told off for parking in the designated parking spaces for the property we ignored this as we had no alternative with the babies, prams, bikes, dog beds etc. the whole place is darker than it appears in the photos, and less luxurious We left the house cleaner than when we arrived and I washed most of the towels and bedding so it was all clean. The house grew on us and we made it very comfy and slept very well. The dogs were happy and slept well in the kitchen. Overall we had a lovely week and enjoyed ourselves very much, unfortunately, I wouldnt return here. But if you want to holiday in a large house on a budget then it is excellent value for money. Just needs tweaking a bit to make it outstanding.
2nd time I've stayed in dumbuie house, this time I felt the cleaning of the house had been neglected, the main bathroom was really dirty around floor and behind toilet, there was dust and dirt in bedroom with single beds in the dust and biscuits under bed, they were dirty plates in cupboard it just needs a good overhaul. When I left I'd given all the kitchen worktops a good clean. Having said all that it's a beautiful place to stay it wouldn't put me off staying again but unless you're honest then the owner wouldn't know these things need addressed
Perfect location. Amazing house. Clean and everything was thought out about what you would need to make you stay great .
Dumbui was exactly what we were looking for for a family get together. Spacious rooms, well laid out kitchen and lounge in the heart of Haltwhistle. Great comunication from the owner. A great weekend had by all thankyou..
Dennis
Nice stay. A couple of non stick frying pans would be good. Larger bath towels as well. Overall though we would come back.
We had an amazing family holiday in this beautiful home, we had 4 generations of our family stay and the house fully met our needs . The kitchen had everything we needed to make big family meals each day. The house was exceptionally warm and we didnt need the fire lit in February! The house is well Located with shops and for us a local EV point for our electric car. Location great, beautiful walks right on your door step . We loved it, and would definately come back and recommend to others.
We had a lovely stay. Property is convenient for all the facilities in Haltwhistle.
Sandra
Great for a family gathering with plenty of space and bathrooms. A bigger cooker would be helpful when there are 10 of you but everything else was fine.
Great location great town
Michael
Ideal location perfect for every need, plenty of room inside from the spacious kitchen dining room, lounge, bathrooms and bedrooms. Private parking off road. All in all a very comfortable, clean and well equipped holiday let for the week.
We had a lovely family gathering for my Wife's Birthday. The house is spacious and comfortable and the owner is excellent with her correspondence.. Haltwhistle is dog friendly with pubs, takeaways etc. Walking near the Roman wall is a treat for all the family.
Lovely house, plenty of room, perfect location for a very short walk to the Coop, Sainsbury's, local pubs and takeaways. Petrol station very near too. Warm house when the heating is on. Needs a decent frying pan and tin opener but minor detail. Easy to explore Northumberland and Scotland from the location. Nice back yard with garden furniture in a quiet location.
Claire
A great place for our family reunion, & in a great position for walks etc. Possibly a group with people who like to go to bed early might not like the fact that the stairs go straight up from the sitting room so noise would go up no problem if the noisy folk are in the large dining area though. The enclosed back yard has a good outdoor seating area & is v safe for dogs.
Lovely spacious house perfectly located for exploring Northumberland. Master bedroom on the top floor is beautiful, the other rooms are spacious but there is an overall lack of wardrobe space. The courtyard is a fantastic suntrap perfect for relaxing on a warm summers evening.
Lovely big house close to all amenities
Beautiful home in a stunning location. Would highly recommend.
Beautiful house, immaculately clean and huge to explore. The property owner is friendly and very helpful, we had a great stay here.
Richard
Really good property, well equipped love the boot cleaner and hose. A couple of the bedrooms were a bit tight for twin beds.
Dumbuie was a lovely property and perfect for our family weekend to celebrate my dads birthday. Great location in Haltwhistle and so near to Hadrians Wall.
Stephanie
Absolutely beautiful house in a great location. The sitting room is comfortable and big for the large group with lovely furnishing. The kitchen is great with the huge table where you can all sit together. It would have been nice to have been able to use the log burner for more than one night without having to provide your own logs. Never have I had a house where you were expected to do this, especially in Feb. Maybe you could factor this in with the price Also having to take glass to the recycling bin which was a car journey from the house was a bit of a task. These are not complaints, just something you may wish to consider. We would stay again and we had a great time.
Dumbuie is a lovely big property with everything you need for a comfortable stay. It is in need of a little tlc around the edges but nothing major to detract from your stay!
Barbara
5 spacious bedrooms and 3 good bathrooms. Particularly enjoyed the freedom to sit outside in the spacious courtyard
We had a lovely stay at Dumbuie. The house was lovely, very spacious. The beds were really comfortable and the owner very kindly set up the beds to meet our needs. Thank you. Some negatives were, the banister doesnt go right to the top of the stairs, this was a slight problem for us because we had two elderly ladies with us, it was also wobbled quite a bit! Only two of the five bedrooms had a wardrobe. The towels arent very big.
We knew little about the facilities that this location offered. The open air pool a brief walk away was an agreeable surprise.
Great location lovely property and ideal for short breaks
Louise
Excellent property spread over 3 floors with ideal placed bathrooms to service all 5 bedrooms. Well equipped throughout. Ideal for us 2 families. Contact of the host easy to reach. Local pubs and food places on the doorstep which is a big plus.
Alison
Cottage has a great location for the town and also for great walks to Hadrians wall Great for our party of 8. Host contacted us prior to arrival to check bed configuration. Cleaner also kindly picked up some balloons for us for our sons 21st Birthday
Suzanne
Booking was easy and regular contact from Sykes and the owner Lyndsey. The house was tidy and very well equipped. We had 13 around the table and big enough. Nice decor and spacious. It was every thing we hoped it would be for our family Christmas break
Denise
There were a few minor problems which we told the owner about after the holiday. These did not in any way spoil our enjoyment of this lovely house and town. We were a family of 9 aged 6 to 72 years plus dog and would definitely consider revisiting.
We would certainly book this house again the house was well suited to our needs, the people in the village were very friendly and there are some fantastic walks.
Sheila
House was central for everything we wanted to do shops pubs and takeaway 's were all at hand . House very homely and we'll equipped ,large table we all day day around and had meals together would recommend it to everyone we will be returning .
A smashing house right in the middle of the High Street. Sleeps 10 comfortably. Haltwhistle has two fish n chip shops, two Indian takeaways and a Chinese takeaway, thats without food the pubs do too. A lovely well equipped kitchen with underfloor heating. Nice rear yard to sit and relax in. Rear parking off the road. A toilet downstairs and two further bathrooms on the first floor. Always hot water at the turn on a tap. A well kept clean and tidy home that made you feel welcome and 'at home' the minute you walked in. Lovely holiday and want to return another year for sure.
Ideal for large party plenty of room, nice area to walk around and amenities just right
Perfectly located in the town centre, the property was very comfortable for our party of 7 cyclists. We appreciated the welcome pack of milk, bread etc. The property is very well appointed and smartly decorated, and unlike some places all the crockery, cutlery and glasses were new looking and in proper matching sets, rather than the random jumble of old stuff you get in some holiday rents. There was plenty of room in the kitchen diner for us all and plenty of utensils and cookware of sufficient sizes for larger numbers for producing meals in. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms nicely done. Also lots of space in the courtyard for our bikes. Good communication with the owner. Highly recommended.
Just back from a week at Dumbuie with friends. The property is situated in the centre of Haltwhistle and is within easy walking distance of shops, pubs, etc. It's a great place to be based for touring around Northumbria. We were very comfortable at Dumbuie and the kitchen was well equipped to allow our group of eight to cook for ourselves most evenings. I was also impressed with the speed at which the owner, Lindsey, replied to my emails when I raised a couple of minor issues. Highly recommended!
Catherine
