Ridley Lodge Reviews

Ridley Lodge was well equiped, clean, comfortable and extremely cosy. We really didn't need to take anything apart from clothes and a bit of food. Re The cottage is set in a peaceful area, but not too far to travel to the hotspots of Northumberland. Thankyou so much for making our break away just perfect.
Lyndsey-anne
Our stay in Ridley Lodge was fantastic! House was spotlessly clean and exceptionally comfortable! Caroline was a fantastic host and went above and beyond. Superb location, close to all points of interest and just a 5 minute stroll to the village of Felton. We would definitely return!
Sylvia
Very spacious comfortable and well equipped lodge , would definitely stay again
Generally very comfortable and spacious, however it is let down by several issues. For six adults selfcatering there is a real shortage of cutlery and serving implements a few tablespoons and a couple of fish slicesserving spoons would be very helpful. I would really expect to be able to have two meals using knivesforksspoons before I needed to use the dishwasher this is not possible. Not really enough mugs or glass tumblers for six adults to have several drinks before needing to use the dishwasher. The windows in the rear bedroom can't speak for the other rooms as I did not look, but needs checking have mould on the inside they need cleaning regularly and there is mould on the shower trims. The bathroom door sticks badly and requires real effort to pull open, potentially an issue for a family with younger children. The latch handle broke on the bathroom window during our stay, upper latch was broken on arrival in the rear bedroom. The rear bedroom window is very difficult to close we had very blustery days so it does impact on your comfort. The windows are either VERY difficult or impossible to close fully and secure. On going back through the reviews this was an issue in 2023, and clearly has not been resolved. The outer window frame on the front bedroom has wood broken off which creates a rather shabby appearance on arrival. These issues are a real shame, as there are some really good things at Ridley Lodge and the general location is pretty good.
The property was really lovely. The lounge and kitchendiner areas were fab for a large group well laid out and a good size with plenty of seating, and well equipped. We enjoyed and made use of the garden area its very private and was lovely to sit out and chat. The beds were very comfy and there was plenty of storage space available. The location of the property was great just a short walk from a pub with great food, a fab bakerycafe and a great little craft ale bar. Everything just worked really well for us.
Beautiful property with so much space, and everything was spotlessly clean. The beds were really comfortable and we had everything we needed. The kitchen and loving spaces were gorgeous and the garden is just lovely. Great location too. Communication was very good and we wouldnt hesitate to return.
Amazing property. Second time staying now, and we will be booking again for next year. Has everything we need! Lovely location. Many thanks again!
A stunning house with everything needed to for a relaxing holiday. The 'Crewe Room' xbox was especially attractive to our eldest grandson! Detailed information provided about general household practices together with where to visit and eat out was provided. The welcome pack was very generous. Would highly recommend Ridley Lodge
Very well equipped, very good welcome pack, nice and quiet location. Comfy beds,
Philip
Great house and excellent facilities. Garden could have been a bit more attractive.
What a beautiful, clean, well equipped property in a fantastic location. When we arrived we walked around and in the entry hall we found a basket for our dog, the kitchen had bread, milk, eggs and biscuits. The children's playroom Crew Room had bean bags and an Xbox. When we opened the bedroom doors they smelt so fresh and clean and the duvets were soft and the pillows lovely and plump, with ample towels. This is a superb property but it's the extras and the fine details that the host pays attention too that makes it perfect and worth a visit.
Thomas
Absolutely gorgeous property and beautiful locatuon. Home from home with added luxury
A lovely house and just what we needed for our group. No issues at all, only good things to say. Thank you for a lovely week
Tracey
Spotlessly clean, really comfortable, lovely decor, delicious welcome basket. Beds comfortable with really nice bedding. Great showers in the bathrooms, lots of lovely soft towels. Brilliant location. Small things outside lights not working, only one cloth for the entire property, no cleaning products. But definitely recommended. Dog owners some of the fence has quite wide gaps so small dogs would be able to escape. Another side of the fence only just above 3 feet so large dogs can jump over ours is an escape artist. Shooting range nearby if like us you have an anxious dog she is a rescue and very scared of shooting noises. But overall the garden is completely enclosed, lovely walks on the doorstep and the lodge is set away from the road so no traffic noise which was lovely. Fabulous location and a lovely wee village with a bakery, gallery shop and the wonderful Northumberland Arms.
Loved staying in this house 3 generation family break.
Good communication whilst staying there. A few instruction on how to operate the tv would have been helpful but eventually sorted. Heating was erratic, came on through the night but not on some days & no instructions to programme so didn't fiddle Could save cost of running. Very spacious, comfortable settee's & beds, beau...ti...ful towels !! Loved the main bathroom, but needed some shelves as there could be a danger of things falling off the window still onto the cistern & bath. Very convenient location.
3 adults for 1 week and able to make full use of the 3 doubletwin rooms. All commented that beds were very comfortable. Did not use bunk bed room so cant comment on that. Did not bring dog but garden would have been fine. A very small dog might be able to squeeze out one of the fences if chasing the squirrels! This house is very well equipped and spacious even for 8 guests I expect. Bed side lights a little dull for reading but no major criticisms at all. Couple of light bulbs need replacing and could not find any firefighters. Fairly easy 10 min walk to Northumberland Arms then a couple of mins across bridge into Felton with cafebakery and shopPost Office. Ridley Lodge was a very comfortable property for us and would return if occasion arose in future. Anyone with special needsdisabilities should be aware all bedrooms are upstairs.

Had a lovely stay at Ridley Lodge. House was spotlessly clean and perfect for our short family break. We had everything we needed and couldn't have chosen a better home to stay at. I would absolutely recommend for anyone wanting to stay in a comfortable home with a great homely feel in a great location for visiting Northumberland
Katherine
We had a really lovely stay. Kitchen was well equipped for us, beds were super comfy and we slept well after lots of days out locally. The welcome pack was really helpful with guides on local shops, places to eat and places to visit. We would love to return one day
Elizabeth
We really enjoyed our stay at Ridley Lodge . The house was spotless and the space and equipment in the house and garden was just right for our needs . There were lots of thoughtful additions, a pint of milk , bread and eggs greeted us and everything had been thought of that we would need . As a family we have stayed in lots of houses , my son said this is the first house that has had decent sharp knives for food preparation! The house is in a perfect location for visiting our favourite haunts in Northumberland. Thank you ,we had a lovely stay and would definitely return.
Caroline and Nick are efficient and friendly hosts, all our queries were replied to promptly. The property itself is beautiful and spacious with a wonderful enclosed garden for the children to play in.
We had a lovely stay at Ridley Lodge. It is by far the cleanest cottage we have stayed in. The bedding was also the best quality weve had. Nice welcome pack when we arrived too.
Pauline

Lovely clean, spacious house, from Entrance Hall, to Kitchen, to the two Lounges & to the all Bedrooms. Kitchen well equipped for 8 people, plus washing machine & dryer very handy for any wet weather. Beautiful garden including garden furniture. Location excellent as just off the A1 & all local attractions are within easy travelling distance for days out.
Charlotte
We stayed here for a week for my dads 60th birthday. We were all so impressed with this house and the space it offers for adults, children and two cocker spaniels, our boys said they wanted to stay forever. The beds were very comfortable in each room with lovely white linen, and plenty of towels. The host thought of everything we could need, the doggies had a little box with towels and bowls, we had the essentials left milk, butter, bread and a bottle of Prosecco which was a lovely touch especially after a long drive. The house its self was stocked with everything we needed and we cooked some lovely meals in the range cooker. We loved coming back to the house, turning on the log burner and watching a family film together. Location wise it was perfect for exploring Northumberland, we spent each day out and had a couple of lovely meals in the local pub a 5 minute walk from the house. Lots of memories made here and we hope to visit again in the future, love the Sadowskyj family xxx
Samantha
3 generations of our family stayed at Ridley Lodge, along with our dogs, and it was comfortable and spacious for us all. The whole house is very wellequipped, with some lovely extras which made our stay really homely. The house is beautifully decorated and furnished and incredibly clean. A lovely location for walkers.... 20 minutes to beaches in one direction, or 20 minutes to woodland and hills in the other. The local village is lovely, with a pub that served excellent food, and a bakery that had the best sausage rolls!! Would also recommend the fish and chip van that stops by on a Wednesday. I would highly recommend this holiday property.
Had a really lovely stay at Ridley Lodge. Very comfortable well appointed property, one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in. Local area great for walks and getting to the beaches and other attractions. Would love to return to this lovely cottage.
Elizabeth
Comfortable spacious extremely well equipped. Toilet seat in front bedroom needs fixing. Enjoyed the lounge with comfortable seating. TV was enormous.
We loved our stay at Ridley Lodge. Caroline and Nick have taken great care to create a clean, comfortable and wellstocked home. The layout of the house is beautiful very spacious kitchen and living room, plenty of room for our children to play. The bedrooms are warm and comfortable. The garden is enclosed and safe for children. We hope to be able to stay again next summer.
This was a spacious property ideally placed for exploring Northumberland and so an excellent base for visiting the sites. The beds were comfortable, the house was clean and there were a decent range of facilities so great for selfcatering. Some lovely views from the main bedroom and ensuite. First impressions of the house on arrival weren't good though. The entrance area was untidy and needed a good clean. The garden was sadly neglected and didn't match the website picture at all. The patio was dirty and need a good jetwash and there were weeds everywhere. The two doormats to the patio were filthy. The patio parasol was very old and worn. Garden pots and planters were full of weeds with broken and tatty window boxes at the front. The lawn was in bad shape and clearly needed attention. It should be pointed out that a public footpath runs alongside the garden too we note that this has been omitted. The portable rotary washing drier for the garden had no ground spike so we had to improvise and use the parasol base with two garden chairs propped up against it to stop it from moving. There was no visible hole to place the drier into. We were surprised at the number of windows in the house that were missing their handles. Some had just one handle and some were difficult to open and close. We reported a handle that snapped on use and the front door yale lock that didn't work very well. We were only given one set of keys normally you get a spare and fortunately we had the back door key which enabled us to get in the house. The internal window frames all needed a really good clean as they were dirty as were the windows. The Crew Room was something we wanted to use but didn't get the full benefit of as there were no instructions left for how to use the Xbox and TV. Our biggest disappointment was that the bed linen, towels, soap and loo roll were not changed and replenished after our first week. We stayed for 2 weeks and expected a normal changeover day for our second week. This is the only property we have stayed where this has happened so clearly not up to standard. We were able to use towels from other rooms but the bed linen should have been changed FriFri. We enjoyed Northumberland but we felt the house was a disappointment. It felt unloved and uncared for with no attention to detail and didn't live up to the webpage blurb and photos. We paid a lot of money for our 2 week stay but didn't feel we got what we paid for. This was a house in need of some TLC and needs investment and far better maintenance. Overall, this was probably once a nice family home but it didn't feel particularly welcoming or homely.
Ridley lodge was gorgeous. It was immaculate. Clean, comfortable and everything we needed to a high standard. The garden was perfect for our two big dogs. Very secure which is a necessity for us. WiFi was very good too. A great base to explore Northumbria and reach Newcastle and Gateshead. Good information from the owner. We really appreciated the quality of this home and hope to return soon. Thank you.
Rachael
This was an absolutely lovely cottage! We stayed for a family get together with 6 adults and 3 young children. The house is beautiful with great facilities and a very well equipped kitchen. All very comfortable as well. Its in a great location for exploring Northumberland and the village of West ThirstonFelton is a perfect base! Would highly recommend and would love to stay again.
What a lovely well equipped house. Exactly as it was described and really comfortable. We have stayed all over and this had the best equipment in the kitchen everything was thought of. Very comfortable beds and fantastic bathrooms. The ensuites were a great addition as we were 2 couples, grandma and 3 children plus 2 dogs. Well placed to visit the area and would definitely go back a very big thank you we really had a lovely Easter week
Angela
We booked Ridley Lodge for a family gettogether ages of party 25 82, not forgetting our 2 year old black lab, who bounced with joy in the enclosed garden and loved the nearby walks. The property exceeded our expectations it is cosy, very comfortable, and well equipped. Our stay was perfect in every way, from the house, to its beautiful setting and the gorgeous village a short stroll away. The owner, Caroline, pays great attention to detail to ensure guests have a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Our previous home is only 45 mins drive away, so we know the area well, and deliberately chose it, as it is convenient for so much, including accessing the coast and all the wonderful places in Northumberland. It was great once again to enjoy the fabulous food at the Running Fox cafe and Northumberland Arms pubrestaurant, both a short walk from the house these come highly recommended! If you're looking for the most perfect place to stay in Northumberland, then Ridley Lodge is it! We'll definitely be back. Angela, Skye
Natalie
This was one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in. It was spotlessly clean, the location was fantastic with a brilliant pub and bakery a 5 minute walk away and a 10 minute drive from some great things to see and do. Very geared up for dogs, loved the little touches left for the dogs and the cottage itself was very well stocked. The owners left bread, milk, eggs for the first day which was really helpful and it was a really comfy and cosy place to stay for the New Year break. Would love to come back.
Graham
Excellent clean accommodation in a quiet location but only a short walk to the amenities in the village. Accommodation was very well equipped and had everything to hand as we mostly cooked over our Xmas stay. Large spacious kitchen and lounge with separate break out room was just what the family needed. Comfortable beds assured a good nights sleep was had by all. Highly recommended
A very comfortable house which was well maintained
We enjoyed a wonderful week in this well appointed and spacious property. The welcome pack was much appreciated and the house was spotless! The kitchendiner, large family room and games room were well equipped and gave us the freedom to spread out and do our own thing. The beds were comfortable and the family bathroom is large and luxurious. This was perfect for our family get together. I would recommend Ridley Lodge to anyone. Many thanks Neil S.
Kirstin
