Hare's Breath Reviews

This property is simply outstanding! The location, facilities, comfort everything is just amazing. The pool table was great too. I can't recommend this highly enough to anyone visiting Bowness on Windermere. Just a short walk to the Lake and the shopsrestaurants. We'll definitely be back!
The property was beautifully presented and felt very homely from the moment we first walked through the door. We have visited Windermere at Christmas time for the last 5 years and stayed in some fantastic houses but this was by far the best and exceed all expectations. We will most certainly be booking again and hopefully the same dates are available as its both mine and my fathers birthday week!! We wouldn't want to stay anywhere else after this experience
Michelle
Our stay was to celebrate a special birthday with family and friends. We needed somewhere for 7 of us and our family dog, this property was just perfect in many ways. Size, location and facilities ticked all the boxes. As many before me have said the house has the 'WOW' factor and the site photos dont do the place justice. For being such a large house it still has a element of feeling cosy to it. It was clean and fresh, fully fitted kitchen and utility room......and the boys in the family loved the pool room !! Location is perfect, and within easy reach of the town center, places to eat and drink it you dont want to cook at the property. During our stay it seemed that the counter top extractor was not working, it didn't really impact on our stay, left a note to mention to the cleaning team when we left. Our group really did enjoy the week, there were however a couple of things that could have made the stay a little more comfortable. Please note however these are only our thoughts and other people may feel differently. 1. Love the spot lights but working out which ones covered which area became an art. When lighting on in the living area they were a little harsh, maybe some lamps would be good. I note that photos on Lakelovers site does show lamps in the living room area, but sadly not when we were there. 2. When lights are on in the evening the property felt a little exposed, it is lower than the ones around it so residents can see in. We did find that we kept the blinds down in kitchen, front living room window to maintain privacy, the byfold patio doors also have very thin window dressing so in the evening no privacy. 3. No mirrors in the bedrooms, other than in the bathrooms or a small free standing vanity mirror. This made it difficult when drying hair, putting on make up or getting dressed. the main bedroom does have a mirror in the wardrobe but no socket close by to use hairdryer. 4. No storageshelves in the bathrooms for placement of toothbrushes, cosmetics etc. 5. I know this has been mentioned in other reviews but the heating system in the property is confusing. We arrived and the temperature was 28 degrees, house was hot and the only way we could cool down was by opening door to patio, not ideal. We noticed however that during the week the outside temperature lowered as did the overall house temperature not knowing how best to control the temperature, there were some afternoons and mornings the temperature in the kitchenliving areas went as low as 16 degrees. Thankfully there is a lovely log burner to use as a back up, initial supply of logs and kindling with additional supplies readily available from Booths or the local garage. 6. Only one bin for general waste, which is supposed to be emptied on a Thursday, bin located at the top of the drive BUT it didnt look like it had been emptied the week before or during our stay, so whoever is in this week will struggle. No recycling bin or glass bin. So although we were separating, there are 2 bins in the kitchen, we had to put all in the one green bin. We did struggle to find a bottle bank close to the house but did find one in Windermere village car park we did leave a few remaining bottles on our last day as heading in the other direction and no space in the car.

Firstly let me say this house is absolutely amazing. Pictures do not do it justice. Spotless and all you really need is there, from soap and towels in all bathrooms to everything in the kitchen. Two issues we had, which is why I gave less stars for maintenance, is the EV charger was not working and according to the App, had not been for a long time. This was an important factor when booking so added additional cost to our stay. Second issue was the unbearable heat on first night due to not being able to adjust temperature. 23 degrees at 3am and in October. I would recommend this house but urge the owners to get less complicated thermostats and get EV charger repaired.
Andrew
Beautiful place, fantastic Location, but noisy neighbours of a morning! Back of house, had to complain twice, best if sharing or paying with two separate families as quite expensive for one family for what you get but was lovely Will return
Property is even better in the flesh than the pictures and description. Great house, very comfortable, very clean, great location 5 minutes walk from Bowness, good for food and drink on an evening in town and a good base to explore the Lakes.
Hare's Breath is a great place for a luxurious family holiday in easy walking distance of Bowness. The EV charger, on which we were depending, was out of action for our week's stay. We reported the problem on our first full day but it wasn't fixed and we didn't get any feedback from the owner. However, the day was saved by the more expensive fast charging to be found at Booths.
Our second time to Hares Breath which says it all A few minor maintenance issues and we left a list for housekeeping. Could do with 1 non stick pan for those of us who like porridge and scrambled eggs! 1010

We had the most wonderful stay! The house is spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated. An ideal location with everything needed for your stay. Highly recommend

We've been holidaying in various Lakes cottages for over 20 years but Hares Breath has raised the bar to an impossible height. Nowhere else we've stayed can compare to the luxury & comfort of this house, what a fabulous holiday we had. Because my husband & I have both served in the British Armed Forces, RAF & RN, we have impossibly high cleanliness standards. Due to this I've always spent the first night of any cottage stay cleaning & dishwashing crockery & cutlery before we can relax. Not necessary at Hares Breath there wasn't a speck of dust or a crumb to be found, the house was spotless. We wanted a comfortable base as we took our little 17 year old rescue dog with & she can't go on walks lasting longer than a couple of hours. We were able to spend time on the balcony & patio using the high end garden furniture provided while she recovered in the sunshine ready for the next walk astonishingly the sun shone every day! For evenings the kitchen had everything we needed to make our meals then we could relax in front of the enormous tv with full sky package. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Another Amazing stay at Hares Breath Everything needed under one roof. Perfect location, for a perfect home Beautiful decor, design and quality. Unable to fault the whole experience Had many questions about this property, cant recommend enough
Alison
This is a beautiful house very well suited to a group of adults staying. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Improvements that could be made more cooking bowls, utensils for those guests who like to self cater .I realise there may only be a few of us. There are so many lovely places to eat in the area. And also being able to control and turn down or off the heating. I would recommend this house as a fantastic base for exploring the lakes.
Patricia
Absolutely beautiful property, cosy and homely yet super luxurious. In a great location to explore Bowness but equally couldn't wait to get back home to this property. Can't wait to stay again!
Superb location. House came up to expectation. Lovely furnishings and overall facilities were top end. I would make a couple if suggestions to the owners. A couple of the toilet seats are loose. The balcony needs sweeping before arrival. I realise the trees shed but this had not been done and there was quite a bit of debris. Overall fabulous place and lots of parking. 2 amazing giant redwoods!!
We have jusy got home after a weeknot long enough! At Hare's Breath, 4 us stayed in this stunning house, with our furry family too
Very comfortable and enjoyable stay and looking forward to a return visit. Great location and the spacious property is perfect for 4 couples. Loved the kitchen layout as we enjoy cooking after a days hiking with all the family around us. Appliances we excellent and easy to navigate. Pool table was used ever night and was great entertainment. Good to be able to take small 2 pooches, cockerpoo and cavapoo, so no hair shedding! A few additions would enhance our stay. Bathroomsdownstairs toilet could do with hooksrails for towels. Hooks on bathroom doors for dressing gowns. Bedrooms need wall mirrors to do hair and make up, only small stand mirrors provided. Also bathroom shelves under the mirrors to put toothbrushes and paste as no space on sinks. Some rooms you had to leave them in the sink. We cook from scratch, make our own bread etc. so handmixer, serving spoons, salad servers would be useful. We bought a colander and extra wooden spoons that we left for the next visitors. I hope this is all constructive comments
Lovely house, very comfortable & roomy.
A note to say thank you so much for an incredible luxury break! We like to stay in a lot of amazing cottages across the UK and this is the best by far. The owners have thought of everything. The house is amazing, from the top of the range appliances, every bedroom having their own high spec bathroom, lovely extras of a hamper on arrival, and extra bits for the kids such as wooden games etc. The cleanliness and maintenance of the building was outstanding. Great location and I would say in our opinion the best house you will find in the Lake District. The house made our holiday I would recommend staying here!
Sheila
We had a fantastic time with the family in your amazing house. On a slight negative we found a lot of food crumbs around the edges in the kitchen and the bathroom sink units had very dirty shelfs with rings of toothpaste on them. We also struggled with the log fire as it quickly filled with smoke causing the flames to extinguish and smoke to escape through the seals every time we used it. This is not a complaint by me I just feel that the owner should know as to stop any complaints in the future. We throughly enjoyed our stay.
We have stayed in some lovely houses over the years in The Lakes but Hares Breath is something else! Furnishings, decor and appliances all to a very high standard and the finishing off in all areas is excellent. Brilliantly set up for a family get together. Spacious bedrooms and open plan downstairs is perfect for privacy if needed ,and being in the centre of everything! Sky package, billiard Pool room, board games are all at hand when needed, that's if you are not out exploring The Lakes and its mountains. Bowness is a 5 minute stroll away and easily accessed by foot. I don't know how feasible a one way system would be for accessing all properties on the estate, as the road is very narrow for its majority but this is mentioned only for constructive reasons. To sum up, brilliant holiday in a fantstic abode .....and we've already booked for next year!
Stephen
Hi We had a nice time last year at Hares Breadth we would now like to book something even better for 2025 we have set the bar so it can only be better please can someone help and let me know? Regards Stephen
Wow what a beautiful house, little piece of luxury in the lakes ! Everything has been thought of & is in a perfect location with just a short walk into Bowness & the lake. We stayed to celebrate my mother in laws 80th birthday & the house was perfect. Huge open plan social space, large enough to accommodate six humans and two dogs & you never felt on top of each other. The games room was a great addition and provided lots of fun. The bedrooms were all beautiful and so comfortable all with their own bathrooms & televisions, so there were no arguments about rooms ! The outdoor space and BBQ was also lovely with lots of outdoor furniture for everyone. Unfortunately the weather wasnt that kind to us with the arrival of Storm Betty in August and some of our plans on the lake had to be cancelled but this beautiful house more than made up for some of the disappointment & made our holiday ! We genuinely didnt want to leave.
This was a special family holiday in celebration of my 60th birthday. Hare's Breath is a wow..!! from the minute the electric gates open till you enter this superb property. There were 6 adults 2 children and a dog in our party and with each room having its own shower there is plenty of space for everyone. The property has everything you need and the pool room is great for an evening relaxing. I would thoroughly recommend this property for a party of 8 and it's just a short walk in BownessonWindermere. The property has plenty of space for parking vehicles something that is difficult in the town. All shops, restuarants and pubs are a 1015min walk away from the property. We had a great week and tried out the watersports nearby, would recommend the wetsuit as the lake is a bit chilly. I would definately rate this property as the best we have had over the years. John, Ayrshire.
Michael
A fabulously appointed high quality property in a super location close to the town. We went with my father and our family of 5 plus our spaniels. Dogs are very welcome and we appreciated that. All of us loved the house, the games room in particular and made use of the great outside seating areas and bbq. Definitely recommend staying here and we would love to go back.
We had a fantastic stay at Hare's Breath, for our Mum's 70th. What a beautiful home! Everything was beautiful, clean and felt brand new. We enjoyed the BBQ, log burner and pool table. The house is so large and spacious for a big group. Couldn't fault our time here.
Beautiful house, perfect location for the best week away. Such a wholesome feeling in the lovely building! Having to redo our kitchen now! Thank you so much, we will be back!
