South View (nr Bamburgh) Reviews

Rachael
We stayed at the cottage over Christmas and overall had a nice break, but a few tweaks would have made the stay much more comfortable. When we arrived, the house was extremely cold as the heating hadnt been left on, and there was no hot water. We had to wait until the following morning for the tank to heat, which wasnt ideal after a long journey. There was also a very unpleasant smell coming from the downstairs bathroom which made the downstairs living spaces unbearable. We had to buy air freshners , drain unblocker and bleach, but unfortunately it didnt resolve the issue. The property itself is a great size and in a lovely location, but some areas would benefit from attention. The kitchen needs a bit of TLC, with a few cupboard doors coming loose. The heating system also isnt very userfriendly, as its controlled remotely by the owner, and we did experience difficulties with it during our stay. For a weeklong booking, it would be helpful if basic essentials were provided things like toilet roll, bin liners, washing machine capsules, dishwasher tablets, and tea towels. Extra towels would also be appreciated, as having to do laundry just to have clean ones felt unnecessarily laborious. A simple welcome hamper would make a big difference too, especially for guests arriving after a long journey. Even just bakery bread, local farm eggs, butter, milk, fresh juice, instant coffee, tea, and sugar would be hugely appreciated. Having to immediately go out and find a shop isnt the best start to a holiday. The listing states that all bedrooms have TVs, but only two did. On the positive side, having two living rooms was a real bonus. Overall, the cleanliness wasnt up to the standard youd expect when paying a premium Christmas rate, especially with seasonal price increases. With a few improvements, this cottage could offer a much better experience.
We had a great stay with extended family. The house met our needs perfectly. Great location for visiting many local attractions we took a boat trip to the Farne Islands, walked to Bamburgh from Seahouses along the beach, walked the beautiful path from Beadnell to Low Newton, had a wonderful day at Cragside you need more than a day! and headed across to Holy Island. Also made use of the Ocean Club pool a couple of times which was excellent warm and very clean. A couple of maintenance issues to pass on but did not detract from our stay.
We absolutely loved our stay. It was a surprise for my Mum's 80th Birthday and family flew in from Canada. Beautiful house and location. Very peaceful. On arrival the zip link beds hadn't been done as requested but a phone call to the owners daughter and it was sorted within a few hours. Very well handled. Would definitely use this place again for a large group visit
A beautiful cosy but spacious property perfect for our family getaway. It had everything we needed and was in a perfect location. I would definitely recommend the property.
Excellent accommodation for all our family. The two sitting rooms meant that everyone had a space to do what they wanted. The outside area was great. The bedrooms with en suite super. Last but not least the location is fantastic for exploring what really is a fantastic area of the country. Long walks on stunning beaches. Amazing castles and historical towns to explore. We really enjoyed our stay.
Lovely cottage in a great spot. Instructions to find were spot on and using what three words really helped. Icing on the cake would have been a pint of milk. Other than that fab thank you
Excellent property in a super location. The views from the house are magnificent. It was great to watch the weather changing from all directions and to see such a abundance of wildlife. The property has been well thought out with lots of equipment and information. We simply could not fault it and will most definitely return. Family of seven, including grandparents and children the layout meant we could easily keep noise away from sleeping children at night and sleeping grandparents in the morning!
Had a great holiday at South View, grandchildren didn't want to leave, weather not kind to us but great to have somewhere warm and comfortable to come back to after a day out plus plenty of space for 6 adults and 2 children.
We had a delightful stay in a beautifully appointed house. The standards of furnishings are high and there are plenty of bowls, pans etc which so often are lacking. The only slight niggle is the heating. The owner has decided when the radiators should come on and that doesnt always suit. The weather was cold and we had a small baby so we needed warmth at different times to the programmed radiators. One shouldnt really have to feel cold when on holiday and initially we did. Im afraid I did alter some of the heating programmes contra to instructions and apologise that they will need reprogramming. That being said, we loved our stay. Thank you.
Frances
A lovely house. The kitchen was very well equipped. Spacious bedrooms with comfy beds and modern bathrooms throughout. We didn't have the weather to enjoy the garden, but the views from the house were stunning.
Heather
Its a long journey from Somerset to Northumberland and upon arriving at the house very tired and weary, our party of 8 were very disappointed to find no milk, not even a teabag, no spare toilet rolls or a pack of biscuits! We paid over 2000 for the weeks rental and it is the first holiday house we have booked that hasnt provided even a basic Welcome Pack. House clean and tidy but the approach drive needs careful negotiation with a hire car as several big dips.
We had a lovely family Christmas here, everything you could need in a holiday cottage. The whole package was just beautiful, with lovely views, just a shame there was so much rain so the majority of the lanes were under water. Will definitely stay in this cottage again
South View is a beautiful holiday home although it is nearer Seahouses than Bamburgh. It was a bit more in the country than we had anticipated but the views are wonderful and the garden really sheltered. We even sat in the garden enjoying the sunshine in October! The house is well equipped and there was plenty of room for our whole party to get together.
Lovely, comfortably furnished to a high spec, well equipped house. Perfect location for well known sights and wonderful beaches. We did have a problem with huge amount of flies in the house, particularly upstairs, and noticed they were appearing from the loft. The only other slight negative was relating to the springs extending pinging noise on the bed nearest the window in the room without a bathroom. The description states that there are fabulous walks on the doorstep, this is slightly misleading, as there are no walks close to the house. All in all, we had the most wonderful week with glorious weather. Love Northumberland!
Gwynneth
Lovely property, great location, very much enjoyed our stay, the approach is a bit rugged and the car bottomed a couple of times but other than that everything was wonderful. Would definitely stay again
Denise
Excellent accommodation to suit family group. Very well equipped with everything to make your holiday an enjoyable stay. Very generous welcome pack which was much appreciated following long journey. Ideally situated for exploring the area. Quiet and peaceful with the most comfortable beds. Tastefully decorated throughout. Spacious sociable living space also huge lounge which we rarely used as the extension was the hub of the house. Highly recommend.
Fantastic house loved it
A beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet setting. Well equipped and spotlessly clean with comfortable beds. Would definitely stay here again.
Very well laid out property for two families or large family. Beautifully furnished and very practical with options to be private and together. Fantastic location and clear information provided.
South View is like the Tardis it&rsquos exterior belies the spaciousness inside. The ground floor seems to go on and on. The whole house is finished to a good standard and shows excellent attention to detail. There were welcome treats for the dog as well as us!
We rent holiday homes on a regular basis in the UK and abroad as 2 families and we have owned our own holiday home previously. We do have very high standards and expectations and South View absolutely met these expectations. The property is ideally located and has been beautifully and tastefully renovated to a very high standard. The house has everything you could possibly need and more and is of a hotel standard. We would highly recommend the property and couldn&rsquot fault it at all and we would definitely like to return in the future.
South View is a stunning cottage. Spacious with stunning views. No one wanted to come home, I&rsquom sure we will be back !
The property is stunning! It has everything we wanted for a week away as a family group. There is so much space in the property and the garden is brilliant and secure. We loved the kitchen living room area and spent most of our time in there, retiring to the cosy snug area in the evenings where the log burner was. It was perfect for a dog as well, ours settled really well and slept in the utility at night that was secure. We would recommend this property 100. The owner was extremely helpful and was keen to make our stay as perfect as possible.
South View is a stunning house with plenty of space. The standard of decor is exceptional and provides everything you need for a perfect week away. The garden was great for our dog and the views are wonderful as we watched deer in the next field most mornings.
South View was a fabulous place to stay, it was extremely comfortable, and very well equipped. The views were wonderful, one of the nicest properties we have stayed in.
We were delighted with the property. Faultless.
South View is the best we&39ve ever rented in the UK. The house was everything promised clean, spacious, airy, with a modern luxe vibe and cracking sea views. We cooked big family meals in the wellequipped kitchen and the dining area fitted us all in comfortably. A huge rear garden and thoughtful extras like binoculars and a telescope with the most important thing, a comfy bed with lush, clean smelling linen. We&39re definitely coming back.
