Romsey Lodge Reviews

Catherine
Beautiful location and superb property with everything you could need. Would definitely recommend.
Once again, we had a wonderful time. Last time we came in May 2025 and it was a heatwave, so we werent expecting the sun this time, but we did get some. However, even in the rain this home is beautiful and every day we saw something new. The highlights included seeing a deer in the garden and the most wonderful sky one night. I have never seen so many stars in my life, it was incredible. Loved every minute of it. The only negative this is not the owners fault, it was the previous occupants didn't understand recycling. They didnt use either the black or green bin bags provided, and just decided to throw their rubbish in both bins, including a lot of poop bags from their dogs. Worried that the bins wouldn't be taken away in that state, as they wouldn't in our area, we had to empty both bins and sort out the rubbish into appropriate bags. Not pleasant, but it just shows you some people are totally ignorant to the environment challenges we face and are disrespectable to the places they rent. Luckily that is not the norm in our experience and this place is still the most gorgeous location I have ever been in.

We all enjoyed our stay very comfortable beds everything we needed was there the log burner through out some heat and looked lovely. My two dogs throughly enjoyed there stay to.. so lots of wildlife kingfisher squirrels and fish leaping out of the river perfect holiday. Only down side is its about an hours drive from most attractions, so need to be happy with travelling to and from
Fabulous stay at Romsey. Great location and everything you need in the house. We loved it.
Christopher
We were thoroughly pleased with everything about our stay. A beautiful tranquil location, easy access and spacious comfortable accommodation. We would certainly recommend Romsey Lodge to friends and family.
Location was brilliant, nice river outlook. The house itself was very hot, heating right downoff, blinds closed, window open etc, still hot, which made it difficult for my family to sleep upstairs, as rooms were even hotter up there. Maybe, provision of some fans would help? Everything else inside was good, kitchen well equipped, washing machine, tumble worked well. Garden although lovely, meant we had to bring our dog long line and stakes, with no enclosed section which I saw before coming, but read occasional horse may be seen on bridle way, glad I did bring it, as I think people need to be aware that quiet a few walkers, joggers, pass by the front of the house, with their dogs, children on bikes, so dogs need to be on lead, or content with strangers passing by the garden, when youre sitting out. Most dog owners are fine with this, but for those that arent, be good to know about the daily use of that pathbridleway. Wed also suggest a clean n sort out of the utility room cupboards, the corner one to the left has spiders n cobwebs, the cupboards also have a few old teabags n odd items in. Also there was dust in the upstairs master bedroom draws my mum used the draws and pulled out a load of dust n fluff with her clothes, which wasnt ideal. Any further info required on my comments please let me know, I feel its important to feedback so things are understood, and can be addressed if you feel appropriate. We did really enjoy our stay as the location provides nice access to walks and local sites, we saw a Hare on the first night, and Heron on the river and jumping fish most days . No otters
If I had to describe Romsey Lodge in one word it would be stunning. The house is beautiful, and the location is absolutely idyllic. We were a party of 4 adults and 2 dogs, so we had ample room and bedroom choice, with 4 large bedrooms to choose from. My son and partner took the amazing bedroom upstairs, with a view of the river and surrounding area and we took a bedroom downstairs. Both bedrooms were extremely comfortable, and we all slept really well. Each day we went for walks along the river and we also walked into Wark village. The people were really friendly in the village, and we enjoyed a lovely meal on the Sunday in the garden at Battlesteads restaurant. But as the weather was so good, a lot of the time we were happy to sit in the garden, read, eat, drink or play games e.g. dominoes and scrabble, both games were provided and it developed into quite a family competition. We looked forward each day to seeing a Heron fishing, who was very patient and very good at fishing. Heher was nicknamed Harry. The cooking facilities had everything you needed and more. This is honestly the nicest property I have ever stayed in and we usually book a UK stay at least twice a year, so we have stayed in a lot over the years. Thank you so much to the owners for allowing us into your outstanding home. We had the most memorable experience and the first time I can say I didnt want to come home, in 40 years of travelling in the UK and aboard, thats saying something. Cant wait to return.
Had a wonderful week at Romsey Lodge, a dream house and location! It was perfect for some peace and relaxation and the best dog walks on the doorstep! Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home. It will be a holiday we remember with much fondness and happiness.
Andrew
This was our 2nd holiday at Romsey Lodge and once again we were not disappointed. The house is set in a beautiful, quiet location, not far from the centre of Wark. The house is clean and tidy. The kitchen is well stocked with cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils. The weather was so good, we mainly ate outside on the patio. It is centrally located for both Coast and countryside There are a number of walks nearby. We feel it is a privilege to stay at the Lodge and will book again, when available. We highly recommend Romsey Lodge.
We had a fabulous holiday in this lovely house. Great facilities and a lovely area to explore. We didnt want to leave!
Deborah

It literally is a home from home with every need being thought about and catered for as well as some little personal extras which was a lovely touch. We all loved the house, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly return!! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous home!!

Jackie
An excellent property in a beautiful and picturesque location, plenty of room for 7 adults and 1 dog to spread out and sit out on the terrace and admire the wonderful view, the weather was great too. The owners have furnished it very tastefully with artifacts from their travels, thank you for sharing it.
Christopher
Fantastic property and location. We had a lovely time at Romsey Lodge lovely and secluded without being too far from places of interest. Nice modern home with all of the mod cons, great walks along the river and the sounds of the country. Brilliant time had by all!
We loved our stay at Romsey Lodge. It was the perfect setting that was even better in real life. We loved going on walks and seeing the deer. The house was perfect and had everything that was needed. The views were amazing. Would definitely recommend staying here.
Belinda
Absolutely stunning, amazing house and setting. Didn't want to leave. Thank you.
An excellent lodge in an excellent location we had a great time and couldn't fault anything.
Was a fantastic stay at Romsey lodge, the entire family loved it. The area was beautiful we had some great walks, thankfully the area is covered in castles and Roman forts which is brilliant for days out, we attended the battle steads in wark and the Gun in Risdale which were both superb. Romsey lodge was beautiful, it was great reading about Bill and Jude and their experiences, Hopefully we will get the chance to go again! Thanks. David
What can I say other than wow wow wow. From the minute we arrived we were blown away. Comfort and luxury without a doubt. Super clean and tidy. Gorgeous setting too. Welcome pack of champagne
We had a wonderful stay at Romsey Lodge. The house was absoluely immaculate and stocked with everything we could possibly need and some luxuries champagne, biscuits, fudge and more. The location was perfect for us too. We were able to walk the dog along the river and saw herons, cormorants, deer and what may have been a mink definitely not an otter. The wood burner kept us warm and cosy every evening. Lots of places to visit locally and the food at the Battlesteads Hotel within walking distance was excellent. We hope to return next year.
Andrew
Great lodge in a fantastic location, would love to stay again at Romsey lodge. We stayed here for New Year with a family of 5 adults and 1 child, everyone had a great time. Linda was very helpful with helping us arrange taxis for an evening out, also was kind enough to post our daughters Nemo teddy when we left him.
The property and location are wonderful. The photos don't do it justice. It is secluded and peaceful. Set next to the North Tyne River, we had wonderful views from the house and beautiful nights to sit and watch the stars on the bench. Dog walks on the doorstep. Loved watching the fish jump out of the river to catch bugs. Spotted a heron, pheasants and other birds. My husband spotted a deer and lots of squirrels. The house is comfortable and homely, with everything you need. Hexham is close enough to stock up. We also visited Newcastle for some Christmas shopping. Loving the Quentin Blake Fenwick window display. Also visited Kielder Water. We visited out of season but still plenty to do and see. Thank you for the bottle of bubbly, biscuits and fudge. N8ce surprise! Would love to return as ideal spot to visit our son at Uni.
Excellent property and location. The property had all you needed and more and we especially like the wood burning stove that made the stay super cosy. The walks we took in the immediate area were great for our dog despite the rain, we would love to return soon.
Wonderful property. Clean and comfortable, well equipped kitchen. Beautiful peaceful location. Would highly recommend this cottage.
Andrew
We had a very relaxing, enjoyable holiday at Romsey Lodge. It was a genuine home from home, with all the comforts one would expect. The Welcome pack was an unexpected bonus. The owners provided all the kitchen utensils you would need si ensure you didn't starve. They even provided dog bowls and towels for our 4 legged friend. The property was perfectly located on the North Tyne River, with walks on the doorstep. If you wished to go further afield then there was plenty to do. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to stay in such a wonderful home. We highly recommend Romsey Lodge and would definitely stay there again.
F A B U L O U S and so said all of us. Thank you & Best wishes.
Patrick
Excellent location, beautiful surroundings, neighbours really helpful and courteous, rooms and fittings very modern, comfortable and practical would recommend.
Pamela
The house and its setting is perfect, its even better than the pictures! We spent many hours sat on the patio looking out over the river watching fish jump up, herons and ducks and even deer crossing the water each morning. There are lots of nice pubs near by for food and plenty places to visit in beautiful Northumberland. Would definitely recommend 5
Sharon
Excellent location, plenty of room for relaxing and dog friendly. The only thing lacking was a barbeque. We couldn't get the dishwasher to work either, which was a nuisance.
Rachel
Amazing house in a beautiful location. Spotlessly clean and lovely arrival gifts. The fizz was definitely appreciated! We will definitely be back.
Matthew
Three generations of our family stayed and had a fantastic weekend at this super house! The location is amazing, house is gorgeous and a free bottle of champagne, what more could we have asked for! Hope to come back.
