Huntingstile Lodge Reviews

Richard
Publishable Wonderful spacious and well appointed property, with lovely views over Gramere. Well equipped kitchen. The two lounges were very useful and allowed our party of 8 adults and 2 children to spread out and do different things on occasion. Nice to have walks from the house e.g. Loughrigg, around grasmere lake. Strongly recommended ! To the owner We have a number of niggles to report that we suggest should receive attention 1 The LED lights above the dining table flickered terribly, unless on very low on the dimmer switch, rendering them effectively useless. 2 The master bedroom shower and bath floors are very slippy. One of our party fell over in the shower, banged his head and badly bruised his nose. A simple bath mat would solve the problem. 3 In the middle 1st floor bedroom one of the wall lights is not working. 4 The kickboard below the cupboard to the right of the cooker came loose. 5 The instuctions in the property were poor e.g. how to leave the property, how to deal with recycling etc.
Huntingstile is a wonderful spacious holiday house with lovely views and well positioned for walking from the door yet being close to Grasmere for provisions and a pub . The house was clean and warm. The downstairs provides a great social space for a larger group and the kitchen is well equipped for cooking. The only minor issues were lighting not very good downstairs, difficult to get the heating working upstairs, one of the doubles on the first floor was a small double and not very comfortable other beds all comfy , the top floor is being renovated so no curtains and plaster board walls not as the photos . Despite these issues I would definitely recommend and rent again .
Poor lighting over main dining table. Lack of supplies for dishwasherno rinse aid, and minimal dishwasher tablets. Nil for cleaning bathrooms and toilets. Welcome packs were an insult for that sort of rental. Dishwasher would not function with large plates in. Good location, some fabulous rooms, with lots of space on ground floor level. Eventually sorted out heating for bedrooms.
The whole family loved Huntingstile Lodge! Superb views all around! We were extremely lucky with the weather but Im sure we would have enjoyed it come rain or shine.
We had a lovely stay. It was great to be so near a path down to the lake. The view was splendid and it was lovely to sit out at breakfast and enjoy the morning sun. Comfortable rooms. Enough bathrooms. Brilliant. Thank you.

We love Huntingstile Lodge. This was our fourth stay and it really does feel like home from home. We love the location, so close to the lake and with brilliant walks from the doorstep, and we enjoy the 15 minute stroll into the village too. The views are superb and it's lovely to sit out in the garden.
We came back! Another excellent holiday with great views to Grasmere and Seat Sandal, lovely walks from the door to Elterwater and Rydal Water, and a spacious, comfortable house to relax in. The new fridge and dishwasher addressed our two key concerns from last August, and the top floor bathroom still has a secret shower that isn't in the details but makes a great bonus for those on that floor... On the downside, the wonderful master bedroom still needs the chaise longue and easy chair reupholstering, and the sitting room and garden room areas could both do with a couple more easy chairs to really finish them off perfectly. Being picky, the dining table is a bit too big and square to manoeuvre around easily a slightly longer and narrower model would make life easier! For LakeloversSykes, I would reiterate last year's comment that a spare toilet roll per bathroom and at least one kitchen roll are really the standard as a starter, and while some Nescafe, UHT and tiny biscuit sachets enable an emergency initial cuppa, they are not the 'generous welcome' that the quote on the little package implies. If you're going to do a welcome hamper in a 3k holiday cottage, it needs to include proper coffee, real milk and a fullsize pack of biscuits.

Fantastic generous property in stunning location. Views across Grasmere amazing. Very quiet but with easy reach of amenities in Grasmere. Brilliant for a mixed group of ten people

We had a lovely stay at Huntingstile Lodge, with great walks from the door and a lovely comfortable house to come back to. One thing we really thought should have been in the details, as it made a surprising positive difference for our stay, was that the top floor WC does have a little shower tucked in, meaning there are 3 bathrooms in all a big win with a houseful! The dishwasher played up and the fridge door was missing 4 out of 5 shelves but having reported these issues they hopefully wont be a problem for future visitors to this lovely house. A couple of possible points for improvements are that given the general high levels of maintenance, we were surprised to find that in the master bedroom huge, with a great bathroom, and such views! the chaise longue and easy chair are in desperate need of reupholstering. Plus a couple more easy chairs in the living areas would add a bit of extra homeyness and comfort to really make the house tiptop. Finally, a point for Sykes is that Id agree with the previous reviewer that a spare toilet roll in each bathroom and some kitchen roll in the kitchen are really the norm and a neat little box with Nescaf sachets isnt really a welcome hamper especially when paying 3k for the weeks stay.
Beautiful house with great views and plenty of space for sittinglounging that suited our family gathering very well. Great walking on the doorstep and easy access to Grasmere village. Another twin room rather than four doubles would probably suit gatherings like ours better, but we coped. Would be great if there was a barbecue, though
Huntingstile Lodge definitely has the WOW factor. This special house was to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary we honeymooned in Grasmere. The photos do not do the house full justice. Spectacular views from nearly every window esp the master bedroom. Comfort and space for our 3 generations of family. Would love to return but booking dates have changed from Fri to Sat start which does not work for us. Pity!
What a lovely cottage great location only a short walk from Grasmere village & just across the road from the lake. Downstairs rooms were great 2 large lounges, good size dining table, well equipped kitchen with plenty of pots, pans etc. Upstairs, would have preferred more twin beds rather than doubles, would have suited our family group better. Weather not great so couldn't enjoy the outside seating areas much. Thanks for all the books & maps which helped with walk planning.
We enjoyed our stay at Huntingstile lodge. It is a large house with spectacular views and an easy walk into Grasmere. The garden was lovely in the late spring and the bedrooms were comfortable. The master bedroom has a stunning view and is a super room. The seating areas downstairs also have good views and were spacious and comfortable. The kitchen, whilst very well stocked with crockery and cooking items, is small for the size of the house and the fridge is a bit small if you want to cook for a large group over a whole week. Not much that the owner can do about the size of the kitchen but another fridge somewhere would be really useful. The few niggles we had were mostly in relation to cleaning products, such as, not nearly enough dishwasher tablets, the washing up liquid was in a bottle so small that we did not even spot it until we were leaving, no kitchen roll, one roll of toilet paper in each toilet. It seems a bit mean to limit these items which in total would cost less than 10 to provide in a generous quantity. I am not sure if the cottage is run by a company as there were no personal touches but I guess that was okay. Lucky the weather was good as when we tried the television on the last night we could not work out how to turn it on. There were no instructions to help us. Despite these niggles I would definitely stay here again.
