Rathowen Reviews

Excellent spacious and clean property well set up. Beds very comfy and it's so quiet we all slept very well. Areas to address the hot water went off throughout the day, is it on a timer? Info in the folder for guests was very scant, could have done with more detail. Hob was very slow to heat up and if it wasn't for the air fryer, we would still be cooking breakfast. Other than that, we would love to return.
Barbara
Good recent improvements. Some problems with new heating system, but staff at Seahouses Northumbria Cottages were one again very helpful in agreeing a temporary workaround. We'll be back later in the year
Valerie
Second stay at this fabulous house in a great setting. Every comfort and so well placed for exploring this beautiful coast line. Our hosts left us a xmas card to welcome us to the property and we had a great week.I thoroughly recommend this property its just perfect!
Kirsty
Lovely property and great location for visiting the local area. Only recommendation would be to get an air fryer for the kitchen.
What a fabulous place to stay! The house is great there is loads of space and can easily accommodate 8 people. Everywhere was very clean and welcoming. Each year we always write a list of positives and negatives of where we stay just so we remember for future holidays. This year our positives were the balcony what an amazing bonus!!, the little snooker table in the garage, the big power shower, the 'hidden' ensuite it's behind a cupboard door brilliant!, a really well stocked kitchen liked that there was a foldy table in the utility that could easily be brought in for more worktop space, a drive with really easy parking, a big dining table, the visiting garden rabbits and most of all, the amazing view from the bed each morning! For the first year ever, we have not been able to think of a single negative. In fact, if the buyers ever want to sell we'll be there like a shot!
Nicola
Lovely spacious property which easily gives enough space for eight to eat and relax. Main bedroom with ensuite and balcony is wonderful and has the most amazing view across the rocky bay.
Carole
A very comfortable well equipped property in a wonderful position with sea views.
Another wonderful holiday at Rathowen. As usual, Rathowen was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Fantastic views out onto the bay, we even saw dolphins ! Looking forward to returning.
Our family of three generations had a really enjoyable stay at Rathowen. Great location with easy access to the beach and coastal footpaths.
Joanne
Thanks again for another lovely stay at Rathowen weather was good and plenty of great walks. The property is clean, well equipped with everything you could need, getting ready for a few replacement pans in the kitchen, very comfy beds nice spacious rooms an all round lovely placearea to visit. We will be booking again hopefully sooner rather than later. Thank you.
Barbara
Great. The windows which were previously draughty are now all fixed no draughts even during Storm Eowyn! . And the house was spotless when we arrived, so obviously very good cleaners
A great Christmas break and the property was just as described and right next to the sea. It was lovely to receive the chocolates, biscuits and wine as welcome gifts. The house was also decorated for Christmas and we really enjoyed having the open fire! Would go back anytime
Joanne
Once again another lovely stay for us at Rathowen spacious, warm, clean house with very comfy beds and great views. Great location for visiting all the surrounding areas and lots of lovely places for eating out locally. Weather was very kind to us for November and we were able to sit out on the great balcony. Very well equipped kitchen but getting ready for a few replacement items but still can't wait for our next visit. Will be back again in 2025. Thank you.
Michael
The property is warm and comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. There are several areas that need addressing. The most fundamental issue is shower water poors down the kitchen window and on to the window sill. I suspect, but did not carefully investigate, that the main bathroom shower door seal is poorly fitted and tends to fall off the bottom of the door. The second issue is black mold growing in multiple sites in the ensuite shower, the mold sites were in place over 12 months ago when we first rented the property last year. Please add a laundry tumble drier to the utility room. Drying clothes on radiators is difficult with a young family.
Lovely property, clean and comfortable and the best equipped holiday home we have stayed in. The snooker table in the garage was a hit with both the big kids and little kids, while the balcony was lovely to sit and watch the sunrise with a cuppa or if you are lucky enough, as we were, to see the Northern lights and meteor shower. All in all a lovely property and not too far away from Alnwick, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and all the other places of interest.
Another superb holiday and our seventh stay at Rathowen. Very comfortable home for just relaxing and enjoying the magnificent coastal views, yet ideally located as a base for touring around Northumberland and even Cumbria is only a couple of hours away. We definitely plan to return again.
Victoria
Rathowen is located in a ideal location to explore the beaches and local areas. Nice, spacious and warm house. Clean and very comfy beds. The master bedroom was very big and the ensuite was a nice surprise behind sliding mirror doors to match the sliding mirror wardrobe doors. Plenty of crockery, glasses, cutlery, pans and other kitchen equipment but some items were dirty. The only other thing i would say needs improving is a larger parking area and a wider entrance for a bigger car to be able to reverse in safely.
Joanne
Our second stay at Rathowen. Lovely located house with plenty of rooms all nice and clean with a very well equipped kitchen. Great area for walking visited all the lovely places Seahouses, Bamburgh, Holy Island and ate out a lot! Weather was really good for February. Will return. Thank you.
Tracey
The house was in a wonderful position right on the seafront, with lovely sea views. It was a very spacious, comfortable and warm house, which was needed as the week we stayed the weather was very cold. The previous tenant had expressed her thoughts that there may be bed bugs at the property, which worried me greatly. We stayed for the week and found no sign of bugs at all and suffered no bites. I would be very happy to return to the house again.
Querida
We had a lovely stay at Rathowen. A warm, comfortable, spacious house right on the front. Thank you so much for the lovely Xmas treats very kind.
Carolyn
A perfect house for a perfect stay with friendsfamily. We have been staying in Rathowen for many years and it is our happy place! Spacious, well equipped, right by the sea and short walk to the beach.
Michael
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rathowen, which was clean, comfortable and very convenient. We loved the view of the sea just across the road and the beautiful sandy beach at Beadnell Bay, only a short walk away. We also enjoyed trips to nearby Bamburgh and Lindisfarne and a magnificent boat trip to the Farne Islands from Seahouses. The property itself was generally very well furnished and maintained, the only two minor negative comments being 1 There was no colander in the kitchen, which made it difficult to wash salad vegetables etc. 2 One of the dining chairs was broken. This was not a problem for us as we were only a party of seven but it could have been awkward if there had been another person. But thank you for a lovely holiday. We would certainly be very happy to return to Rathowen.
Excellent house and location with sea views. On the coastal footpath, close to the harbour and beach and within easy reach of many tourist sites by car.
Our 4th stay in rathowan at Beadnell, and once again so pleased with the property. .lovely comfortable house, very well equipped and of course the location is perfect
A lovely big, comfortable and warm house right by the sea. Well decorated and furnished. Plenty of room for 8 people making it ideal for a family holiday. Just had our 6th stay there!
Cosy house with lovely sea views. Perfect for a relaxing family holiday. Great base to explore Northumberland.
We liked the house. .........it suited our family needs well & we would consider booking it again.
Our third stay in this property and once again, really pleased. The house is very comfortable and very well equipped. We are looking forward to planning our next stay in wonderful Northumberland.
A comfortable, well appointed and truly unique property. Positioned less than 40 metres from the beach with a balcony overlooking the sea. Breathtaking views any time of year.
Lovely comfortable, spacious property with great sea view. A good base for exploring the beautiful Northumberland coast.
Spacious and well provided property in convenient location.
A comfortable, clean and light property with wonderful sea views. Everything worked, it was warm and there was lots of space.
